Buzzillions launched its iPhone app on the Apple Store last week. It’s the source of a bit of excitement here at Buzzillions HQ, as we see this as a big step toward creating a better experience for shoppers – not just on their computers, but where ever they choose to shop.

Here in the tech world, everyone has their eyes set on mobile, making talented app developers a scarce resource. Luckily, here at Buzzillions and PowerReviews we got people with mad skillz. After the launch of the Buzzillions app, I was able to catch up with Daniel Lau, who developed the app.

SA: What interests you in creating mobile apps?
DL: “The possibilities and challenges of creating better mobile applications is extremely exciting. Mobile is still very much in its infancy, and the apps that are created for mobile devices are continually changing and maturing. It was only three years ago when fart applications and wacky soundboard apps were the norm. Nowadays, more interesting and useful apps are available. With current day apps, I can change the channel on my tv, make reservations for dinner, and of course, check prices and reviews while shopping.

SA: What are some interesting features of the Buzzillions app?
DL: “Buzzillions’ offering is interesting because it aggregates reviews from many vendors. Instead of providing reviews from one single vendor, we provide reviews from many merchant partners such as Staples, REI, and Diapers.com. Because we have many sources for our reviews, it’s very unlikely we don’t have a review for what you are looking for.”

SA: What challenges did you face in getting this app on the market.
DL: “The Apple Store review process is very much a black box process. The possibility of our app of our being rejected for any reason was nerve-racking during development. However, this forced us to maintain a high standard for our application, which results in a better experience for the user. Every detail in our app was made consciously and deliberately.”

SA: What future updates do you plan on for the Buzzillions app?
DL: “There is definitely a lot of room for growth in our application. Expect barcode scanning, history and star tracking, and enhanced sharing options in the near future. We have a lot of cool features lined up, and we hope to get them out to the users as soon as possible!”

SA: Anything else?
DL: “Nope! I just hope that Buzzillions Mobile will help users make better shopping decisions with honest, quality product reviews.”
