Reviewer Comments: I bought 2; one for the adults and one for the kids and they are great. Worth every penny! They took a beating all day over branches and rocks with no issues so toss the patch; you will not need it. They are very beefy (big and bulky). I am 5’4” and my feet did not touch the water. The rope is great; you can tie off and go swim. I took my phone and put it in the cooler and it didnt get wet (yay) major plus +++++. At the end of the day, it has a quick release; it took less than 5 minutes to let the air out have them folded up and stuffed in the trunk of my mustang that also had 2 boogie boards, some blankets and other things! They are worth every penny. Very Very Happy!!! YOU WILL NEED OARS IF YOU WANT TO NAVIAGE WHERE YOU GO AT ALL. WE JUST USED FLIP FLOPS AND IT WORKED FINE!

Life’s big questions: What to do with an extra Velcro strap?

June 15th, 2011 No comments

Today’s question comes from John in Denver about his Columbia men’s Thunderstorm Jacket.

There is a Velcro strap at exterior base of neck. I speculate this is to be used for hood roll-up. Velcro is attached in such a way it makes no sense for rolling up hood. Does anyone know how to use hood roll-up?

This question demands a proper explanation.

Rain jackets are awesome.  They have tons of straps to tighten, vents to unzip, detachable hoods, secret compartments and pockets for every item you’ll ever need.  But when there’s a loose strap of no apparent use, it drives you nuts.

Simple green tips: Cut your electric bill. Start with the fridge.

June 8th, 2011 No comments

Of all your kitchen appliances, the fridge costs the most to run. Refrigerator efficiency depends on many factors, and you can save a lot with some simple steps. Today’s quick green tips will cut your power bill and make your house greener. Mother Earth will thank you later — let’s get started with tip number one..

Tip #1: Keep your freezer full

As the saying goes, “A full freezer is a happy freezer.” Empty space in your freezer is hard to keep cold. Every time you open the door, cold air runs away. Keep the cold inside with solid objects that won’t escape. An easy fix is using bags of ice or reusable ice blocks. Using bags of ice may be optimal though, which leads us to the next tip.
