David - You are right about how some companies focus on profits while letting quality suffer, but as a founder of this company, I can tell you we are not one of those. When we fall short, as everyone does, we do the right thing to resolve the situation and make our customers happy. I wish you could see all the glowing emails we receive about the customer service we provide. (I posted a recent one below)

The Perfect Pushup is an example of our quality and design standards. With over 4 million units sold, it would easy to make more money by cutting corners, but we never did. When consumers opened the box and tried the Perfect Pushup for the first time, the product was better than what they expected, both in performance and quality. Check the Internet and you will find overwhelmingly positive feedback about the product. The Perfect Pullup was designed the same way, however, a flaw in the initial product run meant we fell short of our goals. When we found out about the problem, we quickly redesigned the product, redesigned the testing protocols and have not had a single issue since then.

Regarding the dates of the comments, there are lots of reasons why some are dated in 2009. First, although we exchanged our inventories and the inventories of some retailers, many continued to carry old inventory into 2009. Second, people who own the old units may not use the product very much so the problem isn't noticed for a while. Lastly, and the most scary scenario is that some people bought inferior counterfeit units from eBay and other online sources. (We have spent thousands of dollars shutting down these online resellers and the Chinese factories, but it's a difficult problem that doesn't go away)

When customers let us know about a problem, we jump on it and take care of them. Here's a recent customer email that shows what that feels like:

Subject: Order # PMET00365289

I went out to my porch this morning, and as I was scratching my belly and yawning, I looked down to see a small package from FedEx. I scrambled back inside and opened it and saw that my request had been heeded with no fuss, no drama, and no charge. I've been thinking about you all day and what follows is the conclusion I have come to after working with your company: If you ever make a car, I'll buy it. If you govern a country, I may move there. If you were a single woman, I would date you. Good service is hard to come by, and I have had nothing except good service since I've purchased from you. Last Spring, when I purchased the kit, I chose the cheap shipping which said it would take weeks and weeks; it came in less than a week. These brackets, arrived in a week. I'm speechless, so I can only sing your praises. You have confirmed that there are real people on the receiving end of this message and not robots, and recordings, and "press 7 for a department you've never heard of", and red tape, and protocol, and all those other things that make me nauseous.

Thanks.

Mark says he is speaking for the company and that after the 2008 redesign have not received any complaints (none!). Yet we see three complaints dated 2009.

What makes those complaints believable, and the Iliana Mejia post believable, is the fact that most consumers have seen a definite decline in quality in most products. Unfortunately the decline is across the board - you would think competition would mean one company would strive for quality to beat out the rest, but nowadays its more about how can we convince costumers of the illusion of better quality; it is like companies are competing at how well they can trick, cheat, and swindle customers (hey, CEO's need that third mansion, you know!). So we end up with no choice - unless we are rich and can purchase Cadillac versions of the products we desire or need, we end up with products made by a contractor that underbid too far, overseen by a company not interested in quality control or the customer.

I am not against companies making a profit - but it is not an either or situation either: either a company makes a profit or they do right by their customer. That is a fallacious argument.

Mark, has it ever occurred to you that Iliana Mejia might be an alias? This is the internet, after all. Do you know everything that has worked at the same company as you?

I believe Iliana Mejia.

Speaking for the company, I can tell you we care very much about our customers and the quality of products we design and sell. The Perfect Pullup handles were completely redesigned in 2008 after we received word of problems with the original design. The new handles are made from polycarbonate, the same material used in bullet proof glass, and support well over 300 lbs per handle. They were rigorously tested for tens of thousands of cycles using the maximum rated weight. We have promptly replaced every cracked or broken handle from the original batch free of charge and have not received a single complaint about the new handles from the thousands of units that have shipped since 2008. FYI - the post from Iliana Mejia is fake - we have never had an employee by that name.

This sounds like just the kind of machine to create the freshest and healthiest bread available. what you have on the store shelves is often not fresh, days old and not very tasty. I thing this saves money and for a family will provide health breads to enjoy.

[...] The days are getting shorter and the air is getting downright chilly. With all the rumors of this being an “El Niño” winter, now’s the time to prep your bike for the cold weather commute. Here at the Buzzillions office in San Francisco, we don’t have to deal with any sleet or snow, but it’s starting to get dark by the time we leave the office and we’re already experiencing some epic rains.
