Weird Product of The Week – Dolores Cooler Messenger Bag

Not so much a weird product as an awesome one. Local company Timbuk2’s Dolores Cooler is a beer cooler disguised as a messenger bag. It’s got a waterproof insulated lining & can hold at least 12 beers, plus ice. Since it has a built in bottle opener & coordinates with the PBR color scheme, we’re willing to overlook the fact that standard Timbuk2 bags are also waterproof & beer friendly.

There are so many weird bacon products on Buzzillions that I couldn’t choose just one. Something for everyone here:

The Serious Carnivore – Wild Boar Bacon

It’s not overly gamey, but it tastes slightly sweet with an almost bourbon flavor to the meat. I fried my eggs in the leftover fat afterwards…

To Snuggie or not to Snuggie. A review of the reviews.

We’ve said this time and time again, but it’s worth saying again: we’ve got reviews on pretty much everything. Case in point: We’ve got Snuggie reviews (also in blue) If you’ve ever watched late night television, you have likely seen an ad for The Snuggie (cleverly named like the Shamwow! …maybe we could get the SlapChop guy to wear a Snuggie…)

Like most late night infomercials, you get the feeling that life is a pain. What are the actors in The Snuggie commercial tired of? Blankets. Blankets that slip off, trap your hands, don’t work and otherwise FAIL. Enter The Snuggie, a wearable blanket. Yes, you may look like a Franciscan monk, but at least you can answer the phone while wearing it.

We have over 20 reviews of The Snuggie. While the commercials touts its snuggly, warm quality, many reviewers write of the products thin fabric and poor quality. It doesn’t wash well and smells funny. Some people didn’t seem to mind and loved its functionality anyway, it’s likely some pub crawlers are among those positive reviewers.

There was a time when buying an as-seen-on-tv product was a complete gamble. Though the commercials are compelling, there was no real way to tell if a product was a good buy. Retailers didn’t stock it, so you couldn’t even see it in person before purchasing. Increasingly, people share their opinions and read reviews, knowing that they no longer have to buy blindly. Now if we could get more of those bar hoppers here to write a review or two we might find out just how well it holds up after a long night of drinking.

While the cult status is comical, there are surely people who fully intent to wear it at home, and not as a joke to the local pub crawl. Where do you find out if two Snuggie blankets are worth $24.99? Where do you find out if the infomercial promises are to be believed? Not surprisingly, right here at Buzzillions.

They Love Us in Bra-land

We noticed more and more that we are showing up tops on lists for reviews on bras. It’s both surprising and unsurprising that we do well in bras. Surprising because bras may not seem like a category that people write and read reviews about. Unsuprising because, as a product review site that gathers reviews on practically every product out there, where else are you going to look? While it’s true Amazon may dominate books and music, and other sites dominate electronics, we’ve apparently got the corner on something women wear every day. We tend to think that people just want reviews on electronics, toys, home items, but the truth is people are starving for reviews on things that are perhaps more mundane…underwear and bras.

And people clearly care about sharing their opinion on bras too. One bra, the Comfort Choice Side-Wire Lace Bra has (currently) 1,339 reviews. That is not a typo. Not only do we have tons of bra reviews, but they’re sorted by the type of bra, as well as what type of person you are: Comfort Oriented, Practical, Conservative or a High End Shopper.

It’s an important reminder to us here at Buzzillions, that while other sites concentrate on a very narrow segment of products, we must continue to provide valuable reviews on all kinds of products, even the ones you might not expect to find.
